Cassandra Degen's ORNL Page
My name is Cassandra Degen and I
am a summer intern at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Born and raised in
South Dakota, I now attend South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
I am a sophomore majoring in metallurgical engineering. At South Dakota
School of Mines and Technology, I am currently vice president of TMS
and secretary of Phi Eta Sigma, a freshmen national honors society. At
Oak Ridge National Laboratory, I am currently working on two projects.
One project involves working with Dr. Stan David on the friction stir
welding of stainless steel, and the pin tools needed. The other
involves working with Dr. Mike Santella on friction stir processing of
magnesium alloys and the change in microstructure and increase in
mechanical properties that correlate with the friction stir
processing.
