Menlo Wuu's Home Page at ORNL

This internet site describes the research activities performed by Menlo Wuu during his summer internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  His research pertains to the development of Java(TM) based software components that will be incorporated in a problem solving environment (PSE) for integrated process model for welding.  For example, the following figures show the overall view of the PSE for weld process modeling envisaged by the research staff members of Materials Joining and Non Destructive Evaluation Group in the Metals and Ceramics Division at ORNL.

Weld process modeling involves multitude of physical processes that interact with each other and often leads to complex process-structure-property relationship.  As a result, it is often difficult to develop a comprehensive model that considers all the physical processes by one researcher or one institution.  This limitation can be removed by developing PSE that encompasses all the models developed in various parts of the world through an integrated interface as shown below in Fig. 1.  The final form of the integrated PSE would appear as shown in Fig. 2.

The research by Menlo Wuu focused on developing three java components that will be incorporated in the above mentioned PSE for weld process model. The models need Java 2 plug-in.  So please be careful before running these modules.

Java Components:

  1. Dilution Model For Dissimilar Metal Welding
  2. WRC and Thermodynamic Model for Ferrite Number of Stainless Steel Welds (Version 1) (Version 2)
  3. Driving Force for Nucleation of Oxides in Liquid Steels
