Weld cracking was captured using Vision-System Apparatus
The following QuickTime movie shows the formation
of transverse weld crack in s ingle-crystal nickel base superalloy due
to longitudinal stress development. The weld cracking initiated after
the weld solidification. Therefore the weak metallurgical features
exist in the sub-solidus region.
The following cracking needs to be incorported into weld thermal cycle
variations (similar to the following QT movie) by analytical or numerical
methods
